Bottling Grape Juice is UNSAFE - at least when I'm involved.

Last year when Melissa and I bottled grape juice I broke the glass part on the tubing and sliced my finger very badly. So, I went ahead and tried it again this year.

This time, instead of a seriously cut finger, I almost burned down my kitchen. The juice was taking a long time so we took the boys downstairs to wait. When we came up, the kitchen was filled with smoke. I forgot to check the lids!! The water had boiled out and this is what was left of them. My poor pan too.

We washed and picked a bushel of grapes and this is my cut of the juice. I never know if it's really worth 4 hours of work to get 10 pints and 1 quart of homemade juice. I bottled tomatoes this year too and they ARE worth it - much better than canned. I did them with my grandma so things went smoothly.

And then there's always the clean up work. I better get to washing the stained towels....

Wow! What a project! I don't know if I'll ever be ready to take that on.

It's it strange that we are old and can fruit and vegetables. How did this happen to us?
